Soft Christmas pop sounds from the speakers, shivering visitors warm themselves with Feuerzangenbowle and mulled wine and banish the biting cold from their limbs. It smells of roasted almonds and sweet crêpes. Traders sell their Christmas decorations at the stalls. Everything is a little more tranquil, a little quieter than its big neighbor on Römerberg.
The Christmas market in Rosa on Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz is reminiscent of atmospheric village festivals in a cosy atmosphere. With just one difference, which isn't really a difference at all.
The stalls are not just aimed at homosexuals. Everyone is welcome here. This is gratefully accepted by the audience. Whether homosexual or not - it doesn't matter here.
Pink instead of rainbow
In fact, pink dominates, whether as the color of the booths or in the bartenders' work clothes. In the media, this is seen as a homosexual cliché and misinterpreted, regrets Bubenheim, the event manager. She was just looking for a good motto. Pink, she says, is simply a great color. If she had wanted to make a statement for gays and lesbians, purely hypothetically, she would probably have chosen bright rainbow colors. "And that really doesn't go with Christmas," explains Bubenheim firmly.
