On the Paradiesplatz, which was redesigned a few years ago, in the wonderful district of Sachsenhausen, one of the oldest city festivals in Frankfurt will take place from August 15 to 18 - the Sachsenhäuser Brunnenfest. First mentioned in a document in 1490, the inhabitants of Sachsenhausen were already celebrating the annual cleaning of the public drinking water wells. While this was done by the city in the rest of Frankfurt, the Sachsenhausen residents always took the cleaning of their wells into their own hands. Under the supervision of a Brunnenschultheiß, they first cleaned as much as they could, and then celebrated all the more exuberantly, culminating in the traditional crowning of the Brunnenkönigin.
Also in 2019, a fountain queen will be crowned - this time already on Thursday - , in addition, there is still a lot of live music, the historical well inspection, the traditional "Gickelschmiss" and of course plenty of culinary delicacies. The fountain festival, which has been celebrated annually again since 1953 after a long break, will undoubtedly turn the whole of Alt-Sachsenhausen into a huge fairground again this year.
