On the recently redesigned Paradiesplatz in the wonderful district of Sachsenhausen, one of Frankfurt's oldest city festivals will take place from August 18 to 21: the Sachsenhausen Brunnenfest. First mentioned in a document in 1490, the inhabitants of Sachsenhausen were already celebrating the annual cleaning of the public drinking water wells. While this was done by the city in the rest of Frankfurt, the Sachsenhausen residents always took the cleaning of their wells into their own hands. Under the supervision of a Brunnenschultheiß was first cleaned what the stuff held, and then celebrated all the more exuberant, which found its climax in the traditional coronation of the fountain queen.
Also in 2017, a fountain queen will be crowned again, besides there is still a lot of live music u..a. by Roy Hammer & the Pralinèes, the historical well walk, the traditional "Gickelschmiss" and of course plenty of culinary delights. The fountain festival, which has been celebrated annually since 1953 after a long break, will no doubt once again turn the whole of Alt-Sachsenhausen into a huge fairground this year.
