A three-part concert evening will be held in Mozart Hall as a centerpiece of the music festival "Fremd bin ich .“. With "Winterreise" in mind, yet at the same time reaching far beyond Schubert's time into the present, three projects offer the opportunity for direct engagement with the foreign, for dialogue, for opening and encounter.
Not only Schubert's "Winterreise", but also a project conceived especially for the Musikfest by the Frankfurt composer Hannes Seidl, deals with strangeness, with the central experience of otherness. "Salim's Salon" is a space for contemporary musicians from different cultural backgrounds whose experimental approach does not simply fit into the categories of Western attributions. Far from traditional folklore, the sound artists from Syria, Cameroon and elsewhere are at home in their own musical worlds. "Salim's Salon" is a meeting and exchange point for those whose artistic position wants to escape cultural attribution, whose approach is individual, self-confident, present. The artists who come together in "Salim's Salon" create their own music, far from the clichés that the postcolonial view still ascribes to them. In Salim's Salon they talk about the foreign in music and in life and make it musically tangible. "Salim's Salon" is a scenic concert in which five musicians* are invited to deconstruct the Western view of the foreign, to talk about identity and cliché, and above all to introduce and teach each other their music and to make music together. Alongside their own new music, historical music that has made use of exotic sounds will play a role, putting the audience's view of the foreign to the test.
