Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Don Giovanni KV 527 (excerpts)
A museum exhibit tells a story: This is the idea behind the "Salon Frankfurt" format, which the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Historisches Museum Frankfurt have jointly developed for the 2021/22 season. In the second edition on Thursday, 25. In 1885, the Frankfurt building contractor and architect Johann Georg Kugler constructed a miniature paper theatre for his daughter Maria, which, with its motto "Dem Wahren Schönen Guten" ("To the True Beautiful Good"), the sculptures and the Pegasus sculpture on the main gable, clearly referred to its model: the Frankfurt Opera House, today's Alte Oper, which had opened five years earlier. The paper theatre with two stages that can be played on at the same time is not only an astonishing handmade toy, but also symbolises the enthusiasm of the people of Frankfurt at that time for their new cultural landmark.
These early days of the house are illuminated by the "Salon Frankfurt" at 8 p.m. in the Mozart Saal - also in a musical way. The programme will include the music with which the opera house was inaugurated in 1880 - arias, duets and ensembles from "Don Giovanni", performed by members of the Opera Frankfurt's opera studio and accompanied on the piano. In addition, Dr. Nina Gorgus, curator at the Frankfurt Historical Museum, and presenter Anna Engel, known from many programs on hr2-kultur and hr-TV, will go on a search for clues together and transport the audience to the late 19th century in conversation and with the help of photos and film recordings.
