Even before she could release her debut "Ferritales" on the major Universal in 2012, the Ghent-born singer earned her first merits as support for such headliners as Michael Kiwanuka, Caro Emerald, Simply Red or Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. There the Belgian reached the right target audience right away, because her music is a melange of piano pop, R&B and soul jazz of the sixties and seventies with subtle flirts with electronica and eighties beats.
.With her penchant for all things nostalgic and rich instrumentation, which she can easily bring to stages thanks to midi piano with strings and choirs, Ferri draws from the full, provoking sonic proximity to film score composers like Ennio Morricone (her dad is Italian, after all) and James Newton Howard ("Waterworld") in addition to George Gershwin. On her second CD, "Displeasure," released in the fall of 2016, Sarah Ferri, hailed four years earlier as one of the discoveries of the year, left her gypsy-retro swing behind, this time daringly doing justice to the melancholy stirrings of her soul with her deep voice.
