Palais Schaumburg has reunited with its original line-up and is now coming to Frankfurt on 2.4. Their debut album from 1981 definitely held a special position since its release: light-footed and quirky, abstract and poppy, dilettantish and accomplished, it showed real alternatives to the crude search for identity of the "Neue Deutsche Welle" that was widespread at the time. The band, made up of divergent personalities throughout, now reunited in this formation to revisit, perform live and develop the points of connection.
At their sparse live concerts in Berlin, Cologne and Tokyo, they were frenetically celebrated for it - and not just by their peers. Their statement has lost none of its fascination even in times of post-sampling and today's dynamic changes in music mediation. To anyone who sees and hears the combination of idiosyncratic bass riffs (Blunck), bizarre yet catchy rhythms (Hertwig, Blunck), Fehlmann's shrill brass and synthesizer fanfares, Hiller's seemingly atonal guitar staccatos, and indistinct conglomerations of lyrics, the band's influence is immediately apparent.
