(D, 2017, 83 min, OmU, R: Y. Leyser) - 93. Part of the film series at the Murnau Filmtheater
As part of the Wiesbaden Christopher Street Day on June 2, 2018 you will see the documentary "Queercore - How to Punk a Revolution".
Queercore is the name of the alternative punk movement that gained momentum in the 80s. Frustrated by the sharp distinction between homophobic punk and the stuffy LBGT scene, Bruce LaBruce and G.B. Jones squatted a house and pretended the movement had been going on in their village for years. They made fanzines and experimental films... Director Yony Leyser ("William S. Burroughs - A Man Within", "Desire Will Set You Free") lets the dazzling key figures of the movement have their say: the filmmakers Bruce LaBruce and G. B. Jones, the musicians G. B. Jones and Bruce LaBruce.B. Jones, the musicians Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Jody Bleyle (Team Dresch) and Kathleen Hana (Bikini Kill), its shameless pioneer John Waters - and many more. Artists like Beth Ditto and Peaches talk about how the movement has shaped their understanding of queer life and thinking, which breaks free of all normative restrictions. Film clips, concert excerpts and footage of the most spectacular actions document the scene's multi-layered creativity. Leyser's rousing portrait of the scene not only closes a gaping hole within non-heterosexual historiography, it is also a fierce appeal against any form of false conformity.
