Schwabinggrad Ballet, a political and performance collective formed in Hamburg at the turn of the millennium, began collaborating with the group Arrivati in the spring of 2014.
An alliance of refugees and people of color.
At demos and in street interventions, the two collectives have developed a kind of experimental dance music, played on instruments that can be dragged into the street: Junky drums, analogue synthesizers, melodica, glockenspiel, congas, nineties samplers or the Böhmat, a sixties organ machine of Brechtian format.
From these musical designs the album "Beyond Welcome" was born.
It deals with the border regime, with jazz, postpunk, electronic Afro-Kraut music, with the Germans and the
non-Germans, of coming together beyond a welcoming culture, of holding out without papers, of social dances, of Nato, of Yoruba gods, of Eurocentrism, of the impossibilities of being able to think, let alone enforce, another world
.
