Krishna Mustafa is abandoned by Laura because he hasn't found his identity yet. But who has? No matter, Krishna takes a chance and temporarily moves from Freiburg to Istanbul. There he wants to meet his father, get to know Turkey and search for his roots. Six months later, he still doesn't know more about his roots, but he does know a lot about the Turks and the Germans, about Erdogan and Gezi Park, about mosques and Starbucks, about how to become a good Muslim with the help of prayer apps and a terrorist with the help of the right haircut. A terrifically smart and terrifically funny novel that exposes prejudices, exposes clichés, has a lot to say about Turkey today - and is tremendous fun to read.

Selim Özdogan, son of Turkish parents, was born in 1971 in Cologne, where he still lives today. Since his debut "Es ist so einsam im Sattel, seit das Pferd tot ist" (It's so lonely in the saddle since the horse is dead), he has published numerous novels and short stories, most recently "Der Klang der Blicke", stories (2012) and "DZ", novel (2013).
"Why home, I live for rent" he wrote after living in Istanbul for half a year. Text source and more information about this event:
