Shellac (sometimes called Shellac of North America) is a U.S. noise rock / post-hardcore band formed around 1992 in Chicago, Illinois. The band's style is characterized by minimalism, precision, dissonance, and driving bass lines and rhythms. Guitarist Steve Albini has gained notoriety primarily as a producer for well-known bands such as Nirvana, Pixies, and Helmet.
