Sol Gabetta - Artist in Residence
These two artists could hardly be more opposite: Argentine cellist Sol Gabetta is vivacious, spirited, impulsive and passionate about talking. French pianist Hélène Grimaud is always thoughtful, philosophical and profound, and chooses her words carefully. But when the two of them meet musically, the result is wonderfully harmonious music and a brilliant artistic collaboration such as one rarely finds. Their duo brings the great history of piano and cello encounters into the present. After Daniel Barenboim and Jacqueline du Pré or Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky, Hélène Grimaud and Sol Gabetta embody the modern zeitgeist. "It's about the heartbeat, the pulse, the shared breath," Grimaud explains, "We found this level quite naturally, as people and as musicians - a stroke of luck."
