At the same time, two women who could hardly be more opposite: here the controlled, cool beauty from a Prussian bourgeois milieu who grows up in a boarding school in Weimar; there the passionate little brat who spends her childhood in a brothel in Normandy. One of them changes her men like her wardrobe, the other one always dreams of the great love, every separation is almost death for her. One dies at 90, is the biggest star Germany has ever produced, but is considered a traitor by many Germans. The other turns 47; when she dies, France falls into national mourning, 40,000 people follow her coffin.
Spatz und Engel tells a little-known story of two world-famous icons of the 20th century: the love and friendship between Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf. From the first meeting of the two divas at the end of the 1940s to performances in New York, Baden-Baden or Las Vegas to Piaf's premature death in 1963 in the South of France and Marlene's retreat to her Parisian apartment, the picture arch of this surprising encounter is extensive. A play with lots of music, full of funny, tragic and touching moments.
