When increasingly radical nationalism threatens to stifle liberal Europe, the concept of the nation must be examined. British playwright and theatre-maker Chris Thorpe has done so remarkably.
With the world premiere of his monologue Status, he won one of the coveted Fringe First Awards this year - the German version of the evening was staged by Jana Vetten.
To find out what it actually means to be British, Thorpe has embarked on a journey:
It takes him to Germany, then to America in the land of the Navaho, to Singapore in the heart of untamed radical capitalism and finally back to England via Frankfurt.
