For the Steam Locomotive Festival on 14 and 15 September, the Railway Museum will be open from 10 am to 6 pm. Steam, diesel and electric locomotives will be on display, and visitors can also take a ride in the driver's cab. The "Schweineschnäuzchen" rail bus and the motorised trolley are also open to visitors. Further vehicles will be demonstrated. Exhibitions are also open, with demonstrations of the historic ticket printing works, the training signal box and the model layout of the first Darmstadt main station of the Main-Neckar Railway. The Mobatrain is open and shows model railways in different scales and gauges on different topics. And for young and old, the children's railway runs its circles in the courtyard. Food and drink will be provided in the cafeteria, by the ice cream man and at the barbecue stand in the engine shed.
On Sunday, 15.09. the steam tram train "Fiery Elias" will also be running from the castle in the city centre via Luisenplatz to Kranichstein station. Not only the visitors of the steam locomotive festival can use the opportunity for an extraordinary special trip. Departure from the castle (opposite the Darmstadtium Congress Centre) is at 10:55, 12:55, 14:55 and 16:55. The return journey leaves Kranichstein at 12:10, 14:10, 16:10 and 18:10. Those who only want to use the steam train for a one-way trip can take tram line 5 there or back.
The tram depot for historic HEAG vehicles at the Kranichstein terminus will also be open on Sept. 15.
