Karlheinz Stockhausen Hymns. Electronic and Concrete Music

A three-part concert evening will be held in Mozart Hall as a centerpiece of the music festival "Fremd bin ich ." With "Winterreise" in mind, yet at the same time reaching far beyond Schubert's time into the present, three projects offer the opportunity for direct engagement with the foreign, for dialogue, for opening and encounter.
A utopia stands at the end of the multi-faceted concert evening and is translated into sound with Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Hymnen". When Stockhausen realized his work in the 1960s, he deliberately took music as a basis that everyone knows and is familiar with: some 40 national anthems become sound objects in this resounding whole. Stockhausen's hope: "The composition of so many national anthems into a common musical polyphony of time and space could make it possible to experience the unity of peoples and nations in a harmonious human family as a musical vision."
