Stone Sour return!
Special Guests: The Pretty Reckless
With Stone Sour, a spearhead of the US rock circus returns in June with "Hydrograd", the eagerly awaited follow-up to the conceptual work "House Of Gold & Bones", released in two parts in 2012 and 2013. With these two albums, Stone Sour had finally played their way into the global rock top league. Both works climbed high in the charts worldwide, including top ten positions in the USA, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as in many other countries. They also rose to the top of the US hard rock charts as well as the UK rock charts. Since then, the band has released two powerful EPs full of cover versions, collectively known as "The Burbank Dualogy". Now the time is ripe for a new album, which the band will present live as part of a world tour. Coming to Europe at the end of the year, five shows in Germany are scheduled in Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. Joining them as special guests are The Pretty Reckless. Stone Sour have long been considered a loose side project of singer Corey Taylor, who is otherwise employed by Slipknot. Formed back in the 90s, however, the band was shelved again for several years. In 2002, the idea for Stone Sour was revived when guitarist Josh Rand approached Taylor with freshly written songs. They spent 18 months working on the self-titled debut, which was released in 2002 to great success. Two songs from the album were even nominated for a Grammy in the 'Best Metal Performance' category. Due to delays with Slipknot, Taylor gained plenty of time and freedom to push Stone Sour forward. The albums "Come What(ever) May" and "Audio Secrecy" were released in intervals of four years, both of which reached the US Top 10 and had numerous international successes. For example, "Audio Secrecy" landed at #3 in Germany and cracked the Top 10 in the U.K. The continuity in their work had obviously done the band a lot of good between metal, grunge and hard rock. So well that Corey Taylor, Josh Rand, James Root (guitar), Roy Mayorga (drums) and the only 2012 added studio bassist Johny Chow, recorded as the next release equal to two complete albums. The two-part "House Of Gold & Bones", released in 2012 and 2013, is a sprawling conceptual work of traditional '70s rock music recording quality. It tells a cohesive story and received universally superior reviews. The band underpinned their exceptional status in the rock and metal scene with this conceptual work, which frontman Corey Taylor says is "a cross between Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' and Alice in Chains' 'Dirt'". Following that mammoth undertaking - and also due to a lineup change that saw James Root replaced by Christian Martucci in 2014 - the band first had to find a fresh start for its next album. It took a detour from a plan that Taylor says "has been in place since the early days of Stone Sour: to cover songs by our greatest heroes in our own way." "Meanwhile In Burbank..." and "Straight Outta Burbank..." were two EPs released in 2015 and 2016, respectively, that featured songs by Alice In Chains, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Metallica, Bad Brains, the Rolling Stones and other rock greats. The actually planned third part of this EP series didn't happen anymore, because suddenly the new songs bubbled up again. 18 of them were recorded earlier this year, 15 will now be found on the upcoming album "Hydrograd", which according to Taylor will feature "less metal, but more rock'n'roll, groove and especially great melodies".
