Chicago 1929: Joe and Jerry, two chronically penniless jazz musicians, involuntarily witness a bloodbath caused by Spats Palazzo and his gang. Realizing that their life expectancy as the only witnesses to a mob murder is rather slim, they decide to flee to Florida - but not without shaving their legs first, as their travel opportunity comes in the form of a ladies' band. And so Joe and Jerry become "Josephine" and "Daphne". But unfortunately, complications arise: Joe falls in love with singer Sugar Kane and must find a way to get rid of his costume; Jerry, aka Daphne, is relentlessly pursued by a millionaire in love; and as if that weren't enough, Spats Palazzo and his gang make a surprise reappearance.
