Sommerwerft 2025 – Growing Together

The Sommerwerft festival is dedicating its 24th edition to the theme of "growth" – but not in the traditional sense of "higher, faster, further". In light of species extinction and the climate crisis, the festival asks: How can we learn from nature to grow in solidarity and community? New scientific findings emphasise cooperation, sharing and communicative intelligence as central processes in ecosystems. Sommerwerft translates these ideas artistically and invites visitors to participate in an experiment of collective "growing together".
Around 200 artists and groups from all over the world will perform theatre, dance, music, poetry and performance art on the banks of the Main River. The audience can expect:
Open-air productions away from established stages
Music and dance nights late into the summer air
Poetry and spoken word formats for new voices
Workshops & discourse series on climate justice, participation and cultural diversity
- A festival atmosphere, created exclusively through voluntary commitment, has long attracted 100,000 visitors per year.
