Dame of Spades in the Bahnhofsviertel is not only the oldest nightclub in the city. It is also one of the most versatile. Already after its founding in 1963, more was shown here than pure striptease acts. It should be entertaining and also a little dazzling. And so dance revue events thrilled the audience until the table dance bars in the vicinity threatened to ruin the small nightclub. But in the meantime the concept has been revised. Pik Dame now hosts private parties, concerts, theme parties - and the Pik Sonntag series, which has now become a permanent institution and celebrates its 12th birthday this month.
The idea for the mix of music, cabaret and magic came to musician Gabriel Groh and some friends during a private birthday party at the nightclub. But the very special atmosphere created by the red curtains, the furniture, the lighting and last but not least the location in Elbestraße is really perfect for such a special show. After a few teething problems, Pik Sonntag soon attracted more and more people, which is why it tends to get a bit crowded in the small nightclub. Cosy you could say. What happens on stage is always new, different and surprising.
Whether chansons are warbled, soulful voices can be heard, cabaret makes the audience laugh, magic acts are offered or - that is simply also part of the Pik Dame - a little skin is shown, the Pik Sonntag is always a very special experience for the visitors, but also for the participating artists. Since 2011, travesty star Bäppi La Belle has hosted the event, which takes place once a month - except during the hot summer months.
For the birthday show in May, which will also be the last show before the summer break (it continues at the end of September), Gabriel Groh, Bäppi and all the other artists have certainly come up with something very special again. But one thing is guaranteed: The visitors will definitely experience again a lot of good mood in a very special ambience. And that should not be missed in any case!
