Music is the most subtle form of communication for him, Nicolas Altstaedt confessed in a recent interview. Through music he could learn more about the world and people than through language. Altstaedt is the type of artist who thinks outside the box, who is driven forward, who is not afraid to take risks and who does not make any compromises musically. This description also fully applies to Teodor Currentzis, so it is only logical that the two have recently found their way to a fruitful collaboration. "I try to find the truth to distinguish it from the lie," says Currentzis. Together with Altstaedt, he has put together a programme in which this search for and commitment to the truth virtually impose themselves: Where, for instance, is the true Shostakovich behind the stirring tones of his Second Cello Concerto? And how truthful is Mahler's pain, sunk into his tenth symphony, which remains a fragment?
