The Tangentefestival Frankfurt returns to the Main River again in 2022. In the theater tent at the Schaumainkai you can experience theater and music in a very special atmosphere. The central piece this year is SORBAS, in a production by Loes Snijders.
Free based on the novel "Alexis Sorbas" by Nikos Kazantzakis, better known for the film adaptation with Antony Quinn, the story of an encounter between two disparate people in the place of longing Crete is brought to the stage of the Tangentefestival. And this is what the play is about:
The meaning-seeking writer Basil meets the primeval Zorba. Mind meets body. Impressed by Zorba's vitality and directness, the thinker goes to Zorba's "school of life". Zorba becomes a foreman in Basil's coal mine, which, in order to ground himself in the truest sense of the word, he has leased and put into operation. Two female characters enrich the lives of the two as they grow closer and closer. Madame Hortense, a faded French opera singer falls for Zorba's charms and a mysterious widow, desired by all the men in the next village, awakens sensuality in the writer.
The mine becomes more and more a pretext for their presence in Crete, and so Zorba makes a foolhardy plan of a cable car to get rich with it and set sail with the money and Basil.
