With Teresa Bergman and her band even the melancholy grooves. That's what a concert review once said. It hit the spot. On stage as well as on the CD "Bird Of A Feather", released in 2014, the New Zealander from Berlin fused folk with funk. A successful liaison, which until then was only known from Ani diFranco or Wallis Bird. "With a twist of nearly everything" she also always embellished her singer/songwriter pop with inspirations from blues, bar jazz, scat, swing, soul, chanson, cabaret and musical. This playful versatility in music has always had an infectious effect on her audience.
Authentic, unaffected, intimate are Teresa's performances, multi-faceted her storytelling, always with an optimistic undertone. The honesty of street music, as also embodied by Ed Sheeran and Zaz, who have long since become chart and festival compatible. As a strong woman, Teresa Bergman is on her way. With her new band with Tobias Kabiersch (bass), Pier Ciaccio (drums) and Matt Paull (keyboards) she has recorded her second album "Apart". It's clearly less folky than her debut, many tracks have a dark soul aesthetic, matching the often melancholic lyrics. She also put a lot of thought into grooves. After all, she says, Herbie Hancock is as close to her as Joni Mitchell.
