Terry Hoax? That's right, this is the band that scored a veritable hit in the 90s with their cover version of "Policy Of Truth", which was played up and down on MTV at the time.
Whoever has seen the band live in recent years will have wondered why this band doesn't play the really big venues. So much humour, cracking playing and energy makes for lasting fans. Terry Hoax has not always succeeded in transferring this feeling to a studio album. Often they sounded stymied and fenced in on recordings. Without an audience, they didn't really seem comfortable. A passionate live band doesn't let itself be fenced in so easily. So this time they used a psychological trick: They had their new album financed by their fans via
crowdfunding, reached almost 300% of the needed amount and went into the studio with that high. The new album "Thrill!" is a raw, creative, wild journey into the universe of a band that is busting its legs for the fans! Together with producer Arne Neurand (Guano Apes, Revolverheld, Subway To Sally...) Terry Hoax locked themselves in the rehearsal room for half a year to work on the ideas for the album. The result is a total of 16 songs, which were recorded and produced in many weeks at the legendary Horus Studio in Hannover.
The result are real gems like the single "Shining", the melancholic "Ghost" or the raw original version of "The Best Is Yet To Come", on which Oliver Perau shows his qualities as a mercilessly good singer.
The epic "Make it Slow", which doesn't need to fear comparison with the fan-favourite "Live all", has everything Terry Hoax excels at on stage. Plus there are tight rock songs like the opener "Inbetween" or "I'm Not Afraid To Die", which breathes the spirit of the Hives. No trumpets, no frills - "Thrill" leaves no doubt about what Terry Hoax always deliver live: rock!
