."Sacred thanksgiving song of a convalescent to the Deity, in the Lydian key," reads the score of Beethoven's String Quartet op. The composer noted it between the lines - and not least with this testimony also made his string quartet a personal confession. The Tetzlaff Quartet will perform two of Beethoven's last quartets on its programme at the Musikfest: unrivalled, expressive works that should definitely not be missing when the focus is on music with a confessional character.
In the ensuing conversation, a work by Mark Andre, whose music always confessionally points beyond itself, will be heard once again at the Musikfest: "E" for violoncello solo deals with transcendence, the gradual disappearance and the transition into other spheres.
