An evening of real fakes and fake facts Sonja Veelen - sociologist at Philipps University Marburg
Prince Valium - exiled Frenchman, superhero and power chansonnier
Moderation: Isabella Heil and Alana Schenk
DJ collective Blendwerk (Bielefeld) under the direction of Klaus Walter Who stacks high, falls low? The impostor is a master of dazzle and fascinates with his deceptive spectacle. He is as old as the society whose rules and barriers he fools. History is full of false princes and prophets. In the age of alternative facts, fake news and self-promotion on the stage of social media, the exception itself has become the rule and the social imperative. The impostor, once a dazzling hero with bourgeois chutzpah à la Felix Krull, has left fine society and become an everyman figure. We all feel the everyday compulsion to fake ourselves, to rise above ourselves and the ordinary in terms of performance, and to always be one step ahead of others in the process. The dazzler is aware of the norms and hopes of the zeitgeist, which the ego iconographer plays with in order to draw precious attention to himself. But what fascinates us about the perfection of appearances? What framework does society provide for imposture? And how has the figure of the impostor changed over time? Isabella Heil and Alana Schenk from the Book and Media Practice at Goethe University Frankfurt explore the phenomenon of the impostor in literature, music, film and social media. They talk to Sonja Veelen, sociologist and author of the book "Hochstapler - wie sie uns täuschen" and the French shooting star and one-man work of art Prince Valium. His musical interlude then entices the audience with genuine French charm and suave quirk. A danceable finale will be provided by the DJ collective Blendwerk from Bielefeld under the direction of Klaus Walter. But beware: not everything that enters the stage this evening is forgery-proof! An event of the course Cultural Management 2017 of the Book and Media Practice at the Goethe University under the direction of Silke Hartmann, sponsored by the Cultural Office Frankfurt am Main and the Goethe University. Sonja Veelen is a graduate sociologist. She studied sociology, psychology and media studies and has been working at Philipps University Marburg since 2008. In 2012 her book "Hochstapler - Wie sie uns täuschen" was published, a sociological analysis about mechanisms and tricks of the con man. Prince Valium plays French power hit. After a brief but legendary career as a porn star in Japan, the French exile from Brittany works in television and makes contacts with show stars such as Roberto Blanco and Dj Bobo. A loop station, a theremin and an ironing board. Serge Gainsbourg meets as a trio, with a pinch of dilettantism. A dadaistic firework, with a breeze of love. Blendwerk is a DJ collective from Bielefeld. Just like the city, the collective has long since become an unfathomable myth. One thing is certain: Wherever they DJ, the dance floor shakes!
