The German Book Prize, the novel of the year in the German language, will again be chosen this year at the opening of the Frankfurt Book Fair. For the 14th time, the Kulturamt Frankfurt am Main and the Literaturhaus Frankfurt will present the shortlist nominees two weeks before the award ceremony in cooperation with the Stiftung Buchkultur und Leseförderung des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels, which awards the prize.

Five of the six finalists shortlisted for this year's German-language novel of the year will be introduced in readings and talks by Eva-Maria Magel (FAZ), Christoph Schröder (freelance critic) and Bianca Schwarz (hr2-kultur) on Friday, October 1, at 6 pm. The event will take place as a hybrid event.

Ticket sales for the event begin on Friday, September 24, at 10 am. Hall ticket sales (18 euros/12 euros concessions) will start at the same time.

Streaming tickets for the event cost 5 euros. They are sold through the Reservix platform; access is via link and access code, no streaming account is required. The streaming tickets are valid for 70 hours and can be purchased online at the Literaturhaus ticket shop until the start of the event.

The 3G rules apply according to the current Coronavirus Protection Ordinance of the State of Hesse (as of 16. September): Admission is granted upon presentation of a personalized, daily negative test result (citizen test, maximum 24 hours old) or a corresponding proof of a complete vaccination or recovery in connection with an official identification document. Masks are compulsory in the house as well as on the square.

The evening is a joint event of the Kulturamt and the Literaturhaus. The partner is the Stiftung Buchkultur und Leseförderung des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels. The event is funded by the German Literature Fund as part of "Neustart Kultur" of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. The event will be livestreamed in cooperation with the network of literature houses. The media partner is hr2-kultur. The individual readings can be heard there between 13 and 15 October, at 9.05 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.
