Youth Theatre - The Clouds
An ancient comedy by Aristophanes

Highly indebted to the lavish lifestyle of his son Pheidippides, the peasant Strepsiades wishes to apprentice himself to Socrates in order to learn how to escape his creditors. In the process, he falls for the enchanting charms of the clouds and begins to worship them as goddesses. Socrates, however, takes Pheidippides himself as a pupil and opens up two kinds of opportunities for him: A good lifestyle full of self-discipline and ideals, or a lavish lifestyle full of temptations. Also seduced by the clouds, Pheidippides chooses the latter path-and indeed, thanks to his newly acquired teachings and oratory, he manages to turn away some believers.

His new knowledge, however, comes with a vengeance. When Strepsiades and Pheidippides come to blows over a trivial matter, and Pheidippides emerges victorious over his father through base arguments, Strepsiades realizes the true character of the clouds and their seductiveness, and disaster takes its course.
