Better known as "The Dubliners", the group was founded in 1962. The popular band already stood on the most different stages of this world. Well known artists and bands the Irish have worked with include U2, Damien Dempsey, The Pogues and Bressie. Some of the great number 1 hits in the Irish singles charts included "Seven Drunk Nights", "The Irish Rover" and "The Ballad of Ronnie Drew". The death of longtime companion
Eamonn Campbell in October 2017 was a major setback for the group. However, the band found a worthy successor in
Shay Kavanagh, a singer and guitarist.
Séan Cannon, who was with the Dubliners for 30 years along with Campell, takes over vocals as well as guitar in
The Dublin Legends . The two other members
Gerry O'Connor and
Paul Watchorn, who additionally sings, show all their skills on the fiddle and the banjo.
Instruments like the fiddle, the banjo, the guitar or even the mandolin are popular tools for modern Irish folk. Unusual rhythms and lyrics in which stories are told are the perfect combination for music that encourages people to sing along and dance.
