What a lunacy! To give a synopsis for this comedy seems impossible: the events in Georges Feydeau's comedy are too turbulent. This much, however, can be said: Madame Chandebise has been told that her husband is unfaithful. In order to convict him, she orders him by letter under a false name to a rendezvous in a relevant hotel. Monsieur Chandebise, however, does not believe himself to be the addressee of the letter and instead sends his friend Tournel to give him an erotic adventure. What could have been an easy misunderstanding turns out to be an unbelievable tangle, because not only do all the members of the Chandebise household turn up at the dubious hotel with more or less good intentions, but also a double of the Monsieur in the shape of a somewhat grubby hotel servant. And it comes as it must: As beds rotate and doors open and close at a clip, the servant suddenly finds himself being fawned over by a lady of standing, and Monsieur Chandebise takes a beating from the hotelier. Certainly Feydeau's comedy, first performed in Paris in 1907, can be read as an exposure of the double standards of the bourgeoisie, but you can also just have fun here!
