The Little Ghost lives in Eulenstein Castle. His best friend is an owl named Schuhu. With a bunch of 13 keys, the little ghost can open anything he wants without touching it by simply shaking it, whether it's doors, windows or chests. The little ghost's greatest wish is to see the world in daylight for once. But all attempts to stay awake after the end of the witching hour fail. One day, after the little ghost has already given up hope, he actually wakes up not at midnight, but at noon. While exploring the castle, in daylight, the little ghost, while fleeing from a school class visiting the castle museum, is hit by a ray of sunlight and turns black.
The little ghost jumps into the castle well and passes through a small door into the sewers of the town of Owl Mountain. Since it can't find its way back to the castle in the maze of sewers, the ghost searches each sewer exit to see if it leads back to the castle. Thus it causes with the inhabitants of the city, who call it "Schwarzer Unbekannter", each quantity of mischief.
