Poet and Büchner Prize winner Jan Wagner does not stand still in his poetry. He even dares to strike a hymnal note in literary war-ravaged Germany if the worst comes to the worst.
But this key is not the only one with which he sings, according to Eichendorff's "Schläft ein Lied in allen Dingen", even old tires, bikers or Latin teachers.
For Jan Wagner hits the particular magic word quite surely. In his latest volume of poetry "Live Butterfly Show"(Hanser Berlin) he turns to almost casual things like the corn poppy, puts himself in the position of the biblical Jonah or takes a look at the people of the crows and always finds sound and appeal, the appropriate rhythm.
One senses his unprejudiced gaze, his free ear, in general a curious approach that always amounts to a discovery. One might think Jan Wagner has already reached his eighty years, which, according to Picasso, it takes to become a child.
