"I dare boldly enter the gate, The intention is noble and loud and pure." The Magic Flute I.15 A young man is pursued by a snake, faints, meets the bird-man Papageno, falls in love in the face of a painting, and promises the sitter's mother, appearing out of thunderclouds, to rescue her daughter from the hands of a villain. Clearly a fairy tale, right? But Mozart's "Magic Flute is more than a fairy tale with folksy characters. The story, so simple at first glance, can also be read and presented as a Masonic drama of ideas, a parable of growing up or a theatrical rite of passage. However, it never loses its immediate effect. Thus, "The Magic Flute" is world theatre in the best sense: an opportunity for young and old to experience the world through the means of theatre. In a refreshing reading, Karsten Wiegand once again makes Mozart's classic shine, with the Children's Chamber Choir of the Staatstheater Darmstadt at its centre, providing a lively and cheerful approach.
