Acclaimed blues rock star Marcus King will be making a guest appearance in Germany with his band in early summer 2018 to play two festival shows and two club gigs just before the release of his third album.
The young Warren Haynes protégé Marcus King is an exceptional talent, who combines with breathtaking ease and world class the ur-American styles blues, jazz, country, rock, soul to a new Southern Rock amalgam, as it has not been heard in years. "Soul-influenced, psychedelic Southern Rock", is how the 21-year-old singer and guitarist from Greenville, South Carolina aptly describes the music of his group The Marcus King Band.
But Marcus King is much more than a Southern Rock or Blues musician. With his six-piece band, he plays every concert as if unleashed, the musicians chasing each other through their songs with driving drum and bass rhythms, screaming organ, saxophone or trumpet, but at the same time leaving each other plenty of room for extensive jazzy jams in the style of the early Allman Brothers or the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Always led by Marcus King, an astonishingly mature guitarist for his young age who solos extensively, singing in a husky voice -- but also playing the occasional slow blues.
"Nobody plays music like that anymore", spectators say when leaving Marcus King Band concerts, and it is meant appreciatively: For more than two hours Marcus King digs through a mix of music with his band that is unparalleled in the present time -- and carries away young and old with it.
The Marcus King Band features Marcus King on vocals and guitar, Jack Ryan on drums and percussion, Stephen Campbell on bass, Deshawn Alexander on keyboards and organ, Dean Mitchell on saxophone and Justin Johnson on trumpet, trombone and backing vocals.
