Full of anticipation, Figaro makes the final preparations for his wedding with Susanna. But he has made the calculation without his master, Count Almaviva. The latter regrets having abolished the old feudal "right of the first night" and now tries to secretly revive it with Figaro's bride. Bartolo and Marcellina also want to prevent the marriage at all costs. Marcellina herself lays claim to Figaro, and Bartolo cannot forgive him for having once arranged for Rosina to marry the Count. With an ingenious plan Figaro and Susanna want to defeat all wedding opponents and avenge the betrayed countess. Several secret letters, sensational window jumps, disguises and confusion later, the repentant Count finds himself in the arms of his own wife and Figaro's wedding can finally take place after all.
Mozart's musical comedy Le nozze di Figaro follows hot on the heels of its textual model, Beaumarchais's fast-paced social satire. With masterful musico-dramatic flair, Mozart finds the appropriate tones for the comic and erotic entanglements, as well as for the melancholy and hurt that ensue for the characters.
