This woman has no desire for the mundane: she waits in the hotel bar rather than the Café for her friend, as the luxury Hotel Michelangelo exudes the much more pleasant atmosphere and has more distinguished guests.
At the window vis-á-vis sits a man. He watches the woman, whom he likes very much, closely. He sends her fiery glances. She stands up, makes a phone call, returns to her seat. Her seat is taken. The man from vis-à-vis has taken it. Charmingly, he smiles at her and asks, "How much are you?" Clearly he has misinterpreted her dress and habitus. Of course, she, the married, well-off woman, is not for sale. But an unknown game with a stranger excites her.
