A mysterious female murder in London. On this day Mollie and Giles Ralston open their small boarding house "Monkswell Manor", far away from the city. Four guests have announced themselves for the opening: the young, somewhat odd architecture student Christopher Wren, the stern old-fashioned Mrs. Boyle, the aloof Miss Casewell and the retired officer Major Metcalf. A fierce blizzard rages over the town. Mr. Paravicini overturns his car in a snowbank during the night and also finds shelter at the boarding house. The weather continues to worsen and soon the roads are impassable and the house is completely cut off from the outside world. A short time later, the strange Seargant Trotter makes his way to the boarding house. He informs the shut-ins that the boarding house's address has been found in the fugitive wife-killer's notebook, and the guests become the focus of the investigation. It soon becomes clear that the killer must be one of them. Everyone suspects everyone. Nothing is what it seems. The mousetrap snaps shut.
