The Naked and Famous: New Zealand's indie pop event! Third album "Simple Forms" released in October, Exclusive club show on August 16 in Frankfurt. The Naked and Famous from Auckland managed with their debut album "Passive Me, Aggressive You" in their home country immediately the breakthrough. It shot - like the first single "Young Blood" - to number 1 in the New Zealand charts. The rousing song between indie pop and electronic sounds also received the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll award. And also with their second work "In Rolling Waves", which the band recorded in their new adopted hometown Los Angeles, they were able to reach international charts, the album entered the charts in almost every important music market. Last October saw the release of "Simple Forms", the band's third effort, with the advance single "Higher" rising straight back to number 2 in New Zealand's Heatseekers charts. Following their acclaimed German tour in January/February, The Naked and Famous are coming back to Germany on August 16 for an exclusive summer show in Frankfurt. It's their blend of tradition-bound indie pop, modern electronic sounds and their stylistic versatility that shapes The Naked and Famous into one of New Zealand's most exciting bands. Not only have they spotted a trend, but they are setting new fashion signals themselves. From their asymmetrical hairstyles to their cool clothes to their heated stage presence, The Naked and Famous offer "the condensation and meltdown of everything that artists like Passion Pit and MGMT have been pushing in the past year." With these words, the British 'The Guardian' judged the young combo. Beginning as a duo with singers and songwriters Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith, The Naked and Famous met in 2008 at a music school in their hometown. Shortly thereafter, they were joined by three live musicians, David Beadle, Aaron Short and Jesse Wood. That same year, they released two self-produced EPs, "This Machine" and "No Light," which put numerous record labels on the map. And so, less than a year after forming, The Naked and Famous had their first record deal in hand. Since then, there's been no stopping the tasteful formation, which draws from the industrial sound of Nine Inch Nails and the distorted electronics of the Chemical Brothers as well as the soothing, spherical sounds of artists like Massive Attack and Tricky. Even before their debut "Passive Me, Aggressive You" came out, many of their songs were being licensed for ad campaigns and TV series. With the single "Young Blood" they had a big breakthrough overnight. The Naked and Famous are the first New Zealand musicians in 13 years to instantly storm the top of the charts with their first single. Their first flying visits to Europe proved that their eclectic sound, somewhere between indie tradition and contemporary electronic, is more than just a local phenomenon. The BBC judged that "their extraordinarily punchy sound is guaranteed to find its place in the hearts of hordes of British indie fans" - and voted The Naked and Famous onto the important newcomer list 'Sound of 2011'. Their first concerts on German stages in 2011 turned into a triumphant success, as did their debut album, which also became a hit in Europe. The same was true of their second effort, 'In Rolling Waves', released in 2013, which shot up the charts everywhere. Their third album, "Simple Forms," released in October, now carries another evolution: you can immediately hear The Naked and Famous' adopted hometown of Los Angeles in the upbeat and heated songs. It's an energy that carries over to their concerts, as evidenced, for example, by the concert film of a San Francisco show, which is available for free download on their homepage, www.thenakedandfamous.com.
