Told, danced - or in Disney format: E.T.A. Hoffmann's tale "Nutcracker and Mouse King" lives on in many adaptations to the present day. For the Christmas season, the Papageno Musiktheater am Palmengarten, in a proven continuation of its collaboration with the Alte Oper, brings this classic to the stage of the Mozart Saal in its own version. Hans-Dieter Maienschein and his troupe take their young audience and family into Hoffmann's magical Christmas scenes, in which a wooden Nutcracker comes to life and is only freed from a spell thanks to the energetic help of young Marie. They make use not only of imaginative costumes, props and dramaturgical ideas, but also of Peter Tchaikovsky's well-known music, which they bring down to chamber music format.
