30 years of "Radio Play of the Year" - 40 years of "Radio Play of the Month"
Since 1977, a three-member jury has chosen what they consider to be the most successful new production from the ARD's selection as "Radio Play of the Month". The jury is appointed by the German Academy of Performing Arts for one year at a time, with one of the ARD stations being asked in turn to propose radio play experts from its broadcast area. Since 1987, the jury has also selected the "Radio Play of the Year" from the twelve radio plays of the month. In the radio play scene, this award has long been considered one of the most coveted media prizes. It has become a tradition that the award-winning work is publicly presented at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt at the beginning of the following year. The jury provides insights into the past year's production, the artists and dramaturges present are honored with a certificate, and the audience in attendance can question the award winner and jury over a glass of wine.
