The Sichuan Guzheng Ensemble has won numerous international awards. Special mention is made of the simple, elegant performance style and the beautiful timbre, which is the unique appeal of this music on the traditional Chinese Wöllbretzither.
The Sichuan Conservatory of Music has established itself as one of China's leading music education institutions since its founding in 1939 in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, and is now considered the largest music conservatory in the world.
The Dean of the Department of Plucked Instruments of Traditional Chinese Music, Prof. Jiao Li, founded the Sichuan Guzheng Ensemble in 2000 to cultivate the more than thousand-year-old art of playing the arching board zither guzheng and the regional cultural tradition and bring it into the present.
For the first time, such a guzheng ensemble of professional musicians has been formed in Sichuan. It has worked with eminent guzheng masters and performed throughout China; tours have taken the ensemble to South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Africa and the United States.
