Comedy based on the novel of the same name by Nicolas Barreau
Directed by Karin Boyd
Lonely and heartbroken, young restaurant owner Aurélie wanders Paris. She takes refuge in a small bookstore. There her eye falls on a novel entitled "The Smiles of Women". She is stunned to discover that her locale is meticulously described in this book and that the main character looks quite a bit like herself. Coincidence or fate? Aurélie does everything she can to meet the author of the work, an Englishman named Robert Miller. What she doesn't know is that the author's name is a pseudonym - invented by editor André Chabanais. He has written his publisher's latest bestseller himself, without the knowledge of his boss. Using all kinds of tricks, André initially manages to ward off Aurélie's persistent desire to meet the supposed author. Increasingly, however, the enamoured editor finds himself in a dilemma: on the one hand, he wants and needs to keep his secret, and on the other, he wants to draw Aurélie's enthusiasm for the "publicity-shy" writer to himself. Too bad his superior insists on arranging press appointments and a reading with the real Robert Miller...
