Die Sonne belong to the famous 1 percent. The one percent of German-language bands to whom the terms "uniquely" and "eigensinnig" actually apply. Sonically, they distill the smartest, most elegant and crystalline forms that pop and wave have produced, weaving them into disarming narratives with words that are as powerful as they are casually true to life. Their melancholy is boundless, their bitterly wicked humor form-rigorous. As if Rio Reiser got caught in the thicket of a Prefab Sprout daydream. Or Tocotronic lost themselves together with Talk Talk in a post-rock session at the emergency exit of Eden. On stage, this uniqueness, this galaxy-wide difference from radiopop on the one hand and indie-scrap drone on the other, unfolds in all its glory.
