Who are WE? How can we enact social change in the face of a general sense of powerlessness? Do we need new heroes or are different strategies needed in the post-heroic age? Laura Naumann brings the desire for a different world into collision with the real experienced reality of 2017 in her "Ugly Universe".
Five nameless characters crystallize from a text that operates without classical figuration or dialogue. Naumann's characters are not aggressive fighters; they are simple, vulnerable, searching. In search of a utopia. Like a twinkling star in the universe, Rosa emerges for them: An icon, a revolutionary, a way to change things. Like vulnerable planets, the five figures that populate Naumann's cosmos revolve around her sun. They come closer, they begin to act, and suddenly the world shines: HUMANS MADE THE EARTH GLOW. - But inherent in the glow is an image of destruction, a bleak dystopia.
Laura Naumann's text is a rhythmic, pulsating chorus from which the voices of individuals delicately rise. It's a text about a very contemporary attitude to life, the struggle to find love and a foothold in this big, and not always ugly, universe.
