Theatrical evocation of a forgotten great awakening: wild formations of resistance, razor-sharp arguments, sublime acts of state, sordid intrigue, brilliant political discourse, turmoil, chaos, foolish backroom diplomacy, sheer terror.
Another world is possible. - November 1918: Marines refuse to sail for a senseless, suicidal naval battle. General strike in numerous German cities. Protesting huge masses of people roll through the streets of Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich, demanding peace and forcing the unthinkable: the abdication of the Kaiser and the end of the monarchy.
They no longer trust the ruling elite of aristocracy, business, politics and military who have led the German people into this national catastrophe. The country lies prostrate. The national budget is bankrupt, the army decimated and the population starved. The spokesmen of the powerful protest movement want to create a state in which the people have a decisive say in its destiny and themselves take direct responsibility for the shaping and development of the country.
Plans are being developed for a radical democratic state of the future, which can provide valuable inspirational impulses, especially today at a time when many citizens are vehemently protesting that they are being ruled over and that, contrary to lofty election promises, their existential interests are not being taken into account in real politics.
But the old powers of 1918, especially business and the military, are on guard. They do not want to lose their dominant position in society and ruthlessly fight with all means against all movements that challenge their privileges and want to change the status quo.
