All good things come in threes! After two successful competitions, the Puppetry Slam returns to Mainz in 2018. The rules of the successful format from Berlin, where the audience decides who wins, are very simple: you can play with anything that is fun. It doesn't matter if it's a puppet, a marionette or a chip bag - the only rule is: the numbers shown must have been worked out by yourself and may not exceed a time limit of seven minutes.
The Puppetry Slam is Germany's first puppet theatre competition and was launched in October 2014 by author and former poetry slammer Jana Heinicke with the support of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. The ensemble is constantly being assembled from a pool of puppeteers and performance artists. The line-up for Mainz will not be published until September, but those who have attended the last slams can look forward to familiar faces and new discoveries.
