The VGF and the Historische Straßenbahnen Frankfurt am Main (HSF) association are once again drawing attention to the Transport History Day on the weekend of September 2 and 3.
Over two days, the VGF and HSF are offering a colorful program at the Schwanheim site of the Transport Museum. The highlight early on Saturday evening is a performance - now unfortunately rare - by the "U-Bahn Kontrollöre in tiefgefrorenen Frauenkleid" in front of the museum's East Hall.
Full program on two days
Friends of Frankfurt's public transport and all other interested guests are offered by VGF and HSF on Saturday, 2. September, between 2 and 9 p.m. and on Sunday, September 3, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. a colorful and diverse program. On the open-air grounds, the VGF will be exhibiting various work vehicles that one would not normally look out for: among others, a tower car, a rail grinding train and a multi-way cleaning truck. A new T-car will also be on display. Although it is already in service, it is still unusual and open for viewing. It houses the association's museum store, which sells all sorts of items - from models to books.
Interesting panel discussions as a supporting program
The days will be framed by a small program. On Saturday, September 2, Mobility Director Wolfgang Siefert will open the Day of Transport History at 2 pm. Together with VGF Managing Director Michael Rüffer and HSF Chairman Frank Nagel, he will also take part in a panel discussion on the museum and the museum association. Here, he and Rüffer will also comment on plans for the Westhalle, which is in need of renovation, is closed for well-known reasons and unfortunately will not be allowed to open its doors on the weekend either. Other panel discussions are planned on the subject of "Training, jobs and careers at the VGF", the T-car and - as a review - the summer construction site on the U4 and U5 lines. In between, the VGF will be giving away interesting prizes.
Veterans in action
Not to be missed at the "Day of Transport History" is an extensive shuttle service, with which the VGF connects the city center with Schwanheim. Because: the VGF has various drivable streetcar veterans, which show their skills on both days. The historic bus of the VGF connects Schwanheim directly with the light railway museum at Römerhof, the other participant in the "Day of Transport History". Here in the Rebstockpark, also rises the traditional classic car meeting.
Open-air concert of the "U-Bahn-Kontrollöre in frozen women's clothes"
With the "U-Bahn-Kontrollören" offers the VGF on Saturday, 2. September, from 18 clock a special highlight: "Hardcore a cappella", as the quintet calls the genre coined by him. Stylistically, visitors can expect the familiar "Kontrollöre" mix of music and comedy. Well-known pieces are covered and not infrequently satirized with new lyrics, but in addition the guys also offer their own songs with a humor that can be confidently described as quirky. After all, the women's clothes are also frozen.
The troupe is now no longer often seen: Until the turn of the year 2008 / 2009, it regularly gave a concert on New Year's Eve in the old "Batschkapp" in Eschersheim; in March 2008, the band had announced its farewell tour under the title "We are then times away"; in May 2009, there was then the last concert for the time being. But since the summer of 2012, the Kontrollöre - despite their official separation status - have been appearing on stage again and again in their unchanged original line-up, giving concerts in the form of irregular tour blocks and mini-tours. On September 2 now rises the open-air special concert in front of the Museum of Transport.
