Blinky Palermo (1943-1977) is considered one of Germany's most important artists of the late 1960s and 1970s. On June 2 of this year he would celebrate his 75th birthday. In his honor, Museum Wiesbaden is showing the last two important works created shortly before his unexpected early death. A number of outstanding prints complement this presentation.
Accompanying these works in the project space is a never-before-installed,
cloth bracing conceived by Palermo in 1969. Simply put, Palermo's abstract works are a combination of constructivist, often minimalist pictorial elements and color field painting. In between, there are deliberate imprecisions, fraying edges, and always an incredibly subtle sense of humor. Blinky Palermo, civil name Peter Heisterkamp, studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, was a master student of Joseph Beuys, and a participant in the São Paulo and Venice Biennales and Documenta. His works are represented in the world's major museums.
