The Mainz-based jazz musicians have formed Trio 22 since early 2015. All three musicians active in the Rhine-Main jazz scene contribute to the well-rounded overall sound of the ensemble through their individual sound and their wealth of musical experience.
The compositions of Jens Mackenthun give the musicians room to contribute, but also I take back. Mainstream jazz to lean back and enjoy, which at the same time always carries away with virtuoso passages and dynamic outbursts.
The Trio 22 is formed in a classical combination with double bass and drums around the Mainz guitarist Jens Mackenthun.
The sound of the trio is connected to the tradition of jazz guitar, but still moves at the pulse of time. Melodic and harmonious, a calm flow is created that never lets the music stand still and keeps a wide dynamic range open in every direction.
Composed and improvised are in a wonderfully balanced relationship. The musicians thereby cultivate a genuine interplay that moves far away from the well-trodden role clichés. (Simon Werner)
