Afterwards in the Mozart Saal
Conversation with the artists
Moderation: Birgit Ellinghaus
Duration: approx. 30 minutes
The composer and musician Manu Théron has devoted himself to the Occitan songs of his hometown Marseille. A singer-poet in the tradition of the Trobaires Marselhès, he is the voice of the Sirventés trio, which aims to keep the cultural heritage of Provence alive. Occitan is one of the oldest regional languages in France. The Provençal troubadours wrote poetry and sang in Occitan, which originated from colloquial Latin. Their language was and still is an expression of the people's roots in the landscape of the south, everyday life and the multicultural history of the region. Today, however, French is the official language in the country, so the use of Occitan language and music, especially by the youth, amounts to a statement of rebellion against the state and power.
Manu Théron, together with the Trio Sirventés and the feminine vocal quartet La Mal Coiffée, has rearranged a selection of traditional pieces and created other new songs "in keeping with the style" for this concert evening, which deals with the music festival theme "Confessions" in its own way.
